In 1890, the tiny village of North Hudson had just 26 residents, but it boasted its own post office, a feed mill, and the Omaha Railroad shops and depot. Known as “Little Italy” by its Italian community, the village was officially incorporated in 1912. Before World War I, around 800 people worked at the car shops, with the population sitting at 586. North Hudson, Cumberland, and Spooner became Wisconsin’s primary Italian enclaves when Italian immigrants arrived in the 1880s, many finding work with the railroad.

The Village Inn is a no-frills, sports-focused spot offering tasty burgers and pub grub, along with pool, darts, and live music. But what really makes it a local favorite? BINGO! Known for its lively bingo nights, the Village Inn is a big supporter of the Hudson Boosters, the heart of the town’s youth sports programs like baseball, football, and softball—basically, every family in town is connected. Bingo kicks off at 7 PM and runs for about two hours, with just $15 getting you in on all the action for the night. It’s a community event that locals absolutely love.

Embracing the town’s Italian roots, Giovanni’s Italian Ristorante is the newest addition to the local dining scene. North Hudson, Wisconsin - A Village
For the classic Wisconsinite who lives for the outdoors, North Hudson is home to a true gem: Hudson’s Rod and Gun Club. Celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2024, this club is a haven for hunting and outdoor enthusiasts. Situated on a sprawling 110-acre property at 285 Krattley Ln, Hudson, WI 54016, members can enjoy rod, gun, and archery activities. The club is also open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 AM–4 PM and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 PM until dusk or 8 PM, whichever comes first. It’s the perfect spot to connect with fellow outdoorsy folks and enjoy the great Wisconsin outdoors.
And finally, we can’t talk about North Hudson without mentioning the biggest event that marks the end of summer: the North Hudson Pepper Festival! Every third weekend in August, the village comes alive with this beloved celebration. What began in 1954 as a fundraiser for North Hudson Elementary has blossomed into a cherished community event that still supports local organizations today. With deep roots in the town’s Italian heritage, the festival was originally held to help fund a new school after WWII. A fun bit of history: at one of the early festivals, a singer from the Arthur Godfrey show donated a record for auction, and even Liberace contributed a curio piano that fetched $400! And just like that, Pepperfest was born.
